Bombardier introduces the private jet Challenger 3500

The Canadian manufacturer is modernizing its medium-sized business jet.

Bombardier is reorganizing its range of super mid-size jets: the Canadian manufacturer presented the Challenger 3500 at an online event. The business jet is scheduled to go into service in the second half of 2022. The interior of the Bombardier Challenger 3500 is particularly innovative.

The Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier surprises with the presentation of the Challenger 3500. The business jet, a further development of the Challenger 350, has a newly designed cabin that is supposed to combine comfort and functionality, according to a press release. The lighting, temperature and entertainment system can now be controlled by voice command, and there are also chargers for wireless charging and a 24-inch 4K display on board. The standard configuration includes the Nuage seat known from the long-haul aircraft of the Global family. Bombardier also promises increased air pressure in the cabin for its new business jet.

Now the Canadian manufacturer has the 20.9 meter long plane, which was once launched in the Challenger 300 version, a range of 5,900 kilometers. When it comes to the key data, the Challenger 350 and 3,500 hardly differ at first glance. With 3400 nautical miles (6,297 km), the new aircraft offers a little more range, while both aircraft travel at a typical cruising speed of Mach 0.8 and offer space for a maximum of ten passengers. Both are powered by two Honeywell HTF7350 turbofans each with 33 kilonewtons of thrust. At an altitude of 41,000 feet (12,500 m), the pressure on board corresponds to an altitude of 4,850 feet (1,480 m), an improvement of 31 percent over the previous model. An autothrottle system is now standard in the Challenger 3,500 cockpit. The maximum flight altitude is reached at flight level 450 (approx. 13,700 m). Steep approaches to airfields such as London City Airport are possible.

Above all, the successor to the Challenger has a fundamentally revised cabin. Bombardier wants to score points with the Challenger 3500 with the more comfortable Nuage seat, but also with a cabin pressure corresponding to an altitude of 1,478 meters above sea level, which makes the flight experience more pleasant. There are also extras such as “the industry’s first voice-activated lighting, temperature and entertainment system control”, wireless chargers and a 24-inch 4K screen.
With autothrottle

In the cockpit of the Challenger 3500, Bombardier is introducing a standard autothrottle system, an automated control of the thrust. Their range should be almost 6300 kilometers. The Challenger 3500 focuses on what customers value most: a truly extraordinary cabin experience.

It looks at sustainability

Bombardier emphasizes that it has developed the newest member of the Challenger family with a focus on sustainability. Just like the Global 7500, the Challenger 3500 will receive a so-called “Environmental Production Declaration”, a kind of seal of approval that provides information about the aircraft’s ecological footprint. When it comes to furnishing the cabin, customers can opt for high-quality and sustainable materials, the Canadians explain. The offer also includes an app to optimize flight plans and reduce fuel consumption. In addition, Bombardier promises to make the flight test program CO2-neutral in cooperation with World Fuel Services. Part of the carbon emissions for the test flights is to be removed by buying sustainable fuel according to the book-and-claim principle. The remaining emissions are to be offset by compensation payments.
